Project description

This project involved the development and construction of:
• the new Far North Collector Road (two lane, two way),
• provision for the future upgrade of Taylors Lane (two lane, two way),
• a new link road between Far North Collector Road and Taylors Lane (two lane, two way),
• associated works including four bridges, a cattle crossing underpass, three roundabouts, lighting, and off-road paths.

Benefits

The project is expected to:
• Improve local road capacity
• Facilitate the development of new urban release areas and mitigate the impact of increased traffic
• Provide access to North Nowra
• Provide relief to Illaroo Road

Funding

The Australian Government committed around $35.2 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in late 2020 and was completed in August 2024.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
