Project description

The road is potholed, and has poor drainage and tourist vehicles can not travel on this road when there is wet conditions. The road does not have enough rubble to maintain the road in a safe condition

The road is to be surveyed and a design to National sealed roads standard. It will then have Rubble put on it, graded, rolled and finally have a 14mm bitumen seal and then a second seal of 7mm will be applied

Total cost of proposed project is $1,625,540

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
