Project description

This section is narrow and carries high traffic volumes. Road is of inadequate width to manage current and anticipated traffic volumes. It is lacking in formal footways and has significant property access issues.

Roadway to be widened to average 11m over 275 metres. Drainage to be upgraded. Provide kerb & gutter both sides & footpath on the western side. Install traffic medians and pedestrian refuges at strategic locations. Utilities relocated as required.

Total cost of proposed project is $708,895

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
