Project description

The existing sealed road is in poor condition with numerous surface defects and pavement failures. The road is very rough and provides poor ride quality to road users. Repair of the frequent and repetitive pavement and surface failures causes high maintenance expenditure.

Rehabilitation of the road pavement by application of deep asphalt and a new asphalt concrete wearing course. The road alignment and width will remain similar to the existing road.

Total cost of proposed project is $425,411

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
