Project description

The existing road pavement and road surface throughout this section of the street has significant areas of failure resulting in a sub-standard road surface for road users. Couple this with the steepness of the road, approximately 25%, and this road becomes unsafe for motorists with numerous incidents of vehicles skidding / slipping that are particularly made worse during wet weather conditions. This section of Mellifont Street carries relatively high traffic volumes and is used as an alternative north/south route from the CBD.

The proposed work consists of isolated pavement repairs and subsoil drain installation to reinstate the areas of pavement failure and to mitigate future pavement issues respectively. In addition, a new road surface will be constructed that will increase the skid resistance for vehicles. Furthermore, ancillary works will be completed to sections of existing kerb and channel, and pedestrian improvements in the form of pedestrian ramps will be constructed.

Total cost of proposed project is $803,097
