Project description

The project will construct an overpass to separate the Leach Highway from Welshpool Road and upgrade the Leach Highway Bridge over rail south of the proposed Welshpool interchange.

improve efficiency and network reliability
reduce congestion and improve travel times
improve freight productivity and access to freight gateways

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $80 million towards this project.

The project commenced in June 2021 and was completed in March 2023.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
