Mitchell Freeway is the main arterial road that connects the northern suburban areas with Perth’s CBD. The freeway currently terminates at Hester Avenue.
The project extends the Mitchell Freeway a further 5.6 kilometres from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road and convert the existing road into four lanes with a future provision for six lanes. It also involves signalising of intersections, construction of new intersections, construction of on and off-ramps, the construction of a rail tunnel and a principal shared path, an extra 1.8 kilometre lane to Wanneroo Road from Romeo Road to Trian Road and upgrades existing access and service roads.
The Australian Government has committed $124.5 million towards this $249 million project.
The project commenced in June 2021 and was completed in July 2023.
