Project description

The Great Northern Highway Corridor links the Perth metropolitan area and the Port of Fremantle with the north-west of Australia, and provides a link to Darwin and the Northern Territory.

The project will provide the final link in upgrading the Great Northern Highway to the same standard south from Wubin to the planned road train assembly area at Muchea. The proposed project is 66 km long, including construction of 61.6 km of new highway and 4.4 km of improvements to the existing Great Northern Highway. The completion of the Bindoon Bypass will enable access by triple road trains to travel within 58 km of Perth (at Muchea).

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $220 million towards the $275 million project.

Timetable

The project commenced construction in early 2021 and is expected to complete construction by late 2028.
