The project consists of planning for a new station in Lakelands on the existing Mandurah Line. Currently there is a 23km gap between the Warnbro and Mandurah Stations. Some planning work has been undertaken to accommodate recent growth in the Golden Bay, Karnup and Lakelands areas. New and upgraded stations as part of METRONET will also consider development opportunities in communities and improve bus and transfer facilities for commuters.
Integrated and effective public transport. Ensure forecast population-driven increases in travel demand are met. Change travel behaviours and decrease private vehicle use. Improve transport network resilience by providing alternative options. Improve housing diversity. Support growth of vibrant urban centres through integrated transport and land use planning.
The Australian Government has committed $2 million towards the Lakelands Station Business Case.
