Project description
The Toowoomba to Brisbane Passenger Rail business case is investigating the need and viability of a passenger rail connection and confirming the corridor requirements to deliver this project, including any potential interfaces with Inland Rail.
The project is being led by the Queensland Government and is being developed under the Queensland Government Project Assessment Framework (PAF), which sets out three phases of business case assessment and development:
1. Strategic Assessment of Service Requirements
2. Preliminary Evaluation
3. Business Case Development
The Toowoomba to Brisbane Passenger Rail project has completed the Preliminary Evaluation phase.
Benefits
A passenger rail between Brisbane and Toowoomba will provide the opportunity to improve access to services and business development prospects throughout the region.
Funding
The Australian Government committed $15 million to the Toowoomba to Brisbane Passenger Rail project.
Timetable
The business case activities were completed in July 2024.
