Project description

The existing seal is failing allowing the rapid formation of potholes that can pose a risk to road users. On some sections the road surface is very uneven which can cause vehicles to bounce.

Where possible, make good uneven road surface by ripping the seal, importing and shaping gravel to form an even surface. Place a spray seal over repaired areas and other sections where potholes regularly occur.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
