Project description

This section of road is low lying and requires targeted forming and sheeting to raise the road above natural surface level. The existing road in unsealed becomes dusty, corrugated and turns to bull dust in the summer and impassable at various locations following minor rainfall events.

The work will involve forming and sheeting of targeted sections with raised rocks. Sheeting will be a 200mm in depth with a carriageway width of 8 metres and table drains on each side of the road.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
