Project description

Brisbane City Council identified the Warrigal Road, Bellmead Street and Plum Street intersection as a location within the local road network that requires an upgrade to improve operating efficiency and improve local access and, safety. Warrigal Road is a busy road that carries more than 12,000 vehicles per day and provides connectivity to Fruitgrove Train station, Warrigal Square and Runcorn Plaza shopping centres and Warrigal Road State School. Currently vehicles experience difficulty turning in and out of Bellmead Street and Plum Street due to the high volume of traffic on Warrigal Road, resulting in queues back from the nearby rail crossing in the afternoon peak and limited visibility due to the crest on the southern approach to this intersection. Warrigal Road is also a high frequency bus route, however there are currently no controlled pedestrian crossing facilities in the near vicinity to allow safe crossing to the adjacent bus stops.

The project will involve: • installing traffic signals including signalised pedestrian crossings • service relocations • providing an additional lane in each direction on Warrigal Road • widening Plum Street on the northern side adjacent to Warrigal Road • resurfacing sections of Warrigal Road, Bellmead Street and Plum Street near the intersection • installing new line marking

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
