Project description

This project involves the potential duplication and upgrade of the Linkfield Road Overpass to improve safety and capacity at the Linkfield Road/Gympie Arterial interchange.

Benefits

This project will improve safety, and reduce congestion and travel times.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed up to $125.5 million towards the project, with the Queensland Government committing $50.5 million.

Timetable

Construction is expected to commence in mid 2026 and be completed in early 2029, weather permitting.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
