Project description

The Albany Ring Road is a proposed heavy haulage route around the City of Albany that will allow large freight trucks to bypass local traffic to and from the Port of Albany. The Albany Ring Road will link the existing major arterial main roads and highways radiating from Albany, and provide improved access to the Mirambeena Industrial Estate.

The location of the Port of Albany, adjacent to the Central Business District, presents a challenge in the facilitation of freight movement. Freight traffic is constrained by ‘stop-start’ traffic resulting from a number of level crossings and roundabouts on the main freight routes through Albany.

The project will construct the remaining stages of the Albany Ring Road:

  • Phase One - connects Albany Highway to Lancaster Road
  • Phase Two - links the Ring Road from Lancaster Road to Princess Royal Drive

Benefits

  • Improve freight productivity and access to freight gateways
  • Improve connectivity between major freight infrastructure including airports and commercial and industrial areas
  • Improve road safety

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $172.6 million towards the $215.75 million project.

Timetable

The project was completed in May 2024.
