Project description

The Project will investigate alternate corridors and opportunities for staged delivery of road and rail improvements in the vicinity of the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane through a suite of initiatives including a detailed business case. This Business Case will examine the viability of constructing a western alternative corridor parallel to the Bruce Highway in north Brisbane.

An alternative corridor would relieve congestion and improve safety outcomes for commuters and businesses in the growing northern Brisbane region. It would also reduce local trips from the Bruce Highway.

Benefits

If constructed, this project is expected to:

  • improve road safety and reduce congestion for all road users along the current Bruce Highway corridor
  • improve connectivity between people with jobs and services, and goods with markets, to and from Brisbane

Funding

The Australian Government is contributing $10 million towards the project.

Timetable

The study commenced in mid-2021 and is expected to complete in late 2027.
