Project description
The project will investigate the development of an intermodal terminal in Melbourne capable of supporting Inland Rail upon commencement of services.
Benefits
The Australian and Victorian Governments will jointly develop a business case for both an interstate freight precinct at Truganina and for its connection to the national interstate rail network via the proposed Outer Metropolitan Ring Rail South.
These terminals will provide critical support to the Federal Government’s long-term freight strategy to move more freight from road to rail delivering a more resilient, efficient and sustainable Australian supply chain.
Funding
The Australian Government will contribute up to 50 per cent, capped at $4,750,000 for the joint business case.
Timetable
The Business Case for Truganina and OMR Rail South is expected to be delivered by late 2024.
