Project description

Upgrades to the Northern Roads Package includes Birralee Road (Westbury to Frankford), Frankford Road and Batman Highway to enable the corridor to cater for increased heavy vehicle movement supporting business and industry.

This first stage of works will include targeted shoulder widening, pavement rehabilitation and strengthening for approximately 10 kilometres along the Batman Highway to cater for increased heavy vehicle movement supporting business and industry.

The second stage of works will continue to deliver upgrades along the Northern Roads, including road widening, pavement strengthening and localised curve improvements along Frankford and Birralee Roads.

Benefits

Improve freight productivity as Birralee Road feeds into the Bass Highway at Westbury to support freight movement in agriculture and manufacturing industries.

The upgrades along Frankford and Birralee Roads will cater to the Corridors increased heavy vehicle movements supporting business and industry.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $44 million to deliver this project

Timetable

Construction commenced in January 2021 and is expected to be finished by mid 2025.
