Project description

This project will improve the overall safety of the Cunningham Highway by funding improvements at targeted sections of the Highway, including pavement widening, wide centreline treatments, minor intersection upgrades and overtaking lanes.

This project will improve safety for road users on the Cunningham Highway.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $31.8 million to this project, with the Queensland Government committing $7.95 million for a total commitment of $39.75 million.

Timetable

Lake Moogerah Road intersection upgrade works commenced in early 2023 and completed in late 2023. Planning is underway for Tregony to Maryvale safety improvements.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
