Project description

The project will deliver a new 23 kilometre metro railway that will connect Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSIA) to Sydney's public transport network. The project includes six new metro stations at:

  • St Mary's, interchanging with the existing suburban railway station and connecting customers with the rest of Sydney's rail system;
  • Orchard Hills, to service a future commecial and mixed-use precinct;
  • Luddenham, to service a future education, innovation and commercial precinct;
  • Two stations within the airport site, at the airport terminal and at airport business park; and
  • Western Sydney Aerotropolis (Bradfield)

Benefits

The city-shaping project, from St Mary's through to the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and onto the Aerotropolis (Bradfield), will provide a major economic stimulus for Western Sydney, creating more than 14,000 jobs during construction.

Funding

The Australian and NSW Governments are jointly funding this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in January 2023, with tunnel boring machines commencing operations in April 2023. The project is expected to be completed prior to the commencement of operations at the Western Sydney (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport in 2026.
