Project description

This project upgraded targeted sections of Torbanlea Pialba Road between Torbanlea and Hervey Bay.

Benefits

The project is expected to connect agricultural production regions to domestic and international markets improve linkages for road-based tourism improve connectivity between people with jobs and services

Funding

The Australian Government contributed $33.5 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in mid 2022, and was completed in mid 2024.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
