The Rockhampton Ring Road project involves the construction of a new 17.4km section of the Bruce Highway, west of Rockhampton, with key linkages into the city at the Capricorn Highway, Ridgelands Road, Alexandra Street and Yeppoon Road.
The proposed scope includes:
- A new sealed highway corridor, parallel with the rail corridor
- A roadway to increase flood immunity
- A bridge crossing the Fitzroy River
- Intersection upgrades for connections to the Capricorn Highway, Ridgelands Road, Alexandra Street and Yeppoon Road
- New service roads and upgrades to locals roads
- Improvements to stormwater drainage
This project builds on the $28.4 million Australian Government commitment to the $35.5 million Rockhampton Ring Road (Plan and Preserve) project, in partnership with the Queensland Government, for scoping and development activities.
The Australian Government has committed $1.37 billion and the Queensland Government $573.4 million towards the $1.945 billion project.
The $280 million early works package was completed in July 2025. Construction commenced on the main works package in August 2025. The main works package will complete the remaining works on the project, including a new 435-metre bridge over the Fitzroy River.
