Project description

This project will include the installation of overtaking lanes and shoulder sealing at various locations, including between Clare and Auburn and south of Giles Corner. The project will also introduce improvements to the Gladstone level-crossing by extending the rail loop serving the Gladstone silo site, and the replacement of a bridge and culvert north of Melrose.

Benefits

The project will improve safety for all road users and improve connectivity to regional roads and our freight networks.

Funding

The Australian Government is funding on an 80:20 ratio in conjunction with the SA Government.

Timetable

Construction commenced in early 2021 and is expected to be completed by early 2025.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
