Project description

Stage 1 will widen approximately 700 metres of Shute Harbour Road between Paluma Road and Valley Drive to a four-lane divided carriageway, including undertaking associated intersection upgrades. Stage 2 will deliver upgrades to 1.4 kilometres of the Hamilton Plains section of Shute Harbour Road, including road widening, a raised road level and other associated flood immunity treatments.

The benefits of this project include:

- Increase economic productivity by reducing costs to industry through better efficiency on the route and shorter travel times
- Improve road safety and access
- Increase route capacity to accommodate future growth in traffic volume through increased economic activity in the region
 

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $31.85 million and the Queensland Government $31.85 million to the $63.7 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in August 2025 and is expected to be completed in May 2028.
