Project description

Priority works upgrade along the Bass Highway – Cooee to Wynyard corridor to realign and upgrade an approximate 3.2 kilometre stretch of the Bass Highway from Somerset to Wynyard, including the construction of two overtaking lanes, a central median safety barrier and enhanced lane markings along this section of the highway.

Benefits

The upgrades are expected to improve road safety and traffic congestion, particularly providing benefits to freight transportation as a key corridor carrying heavy vehicles to and from the Circular Head municipality, the West Coast, the Port of Burnie and beyond.

Funding

The estimated cost of the project is $50 million. The Australian Government is contributing $40 million and the Tasmanian Government $10 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced in December 2021 with completion expected in late 2024.
