Project description

Road Safety. The road is narrow, has poor verticle and horizontal alignment, has poor active transport facilities and is experiencing increasing traffic demand due to its location in a developing area of the Gold Coast.

Works entail improving the overall safety of the road section by widening the existing road, improving the horizontal and verticle alignment, installing both on-road and off-road active transport facilities and improving road user sight distance.

Total cost of proposed project is $12,920,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
