The Australian and NSW governments have together committed $242.9 million towards the upgrade of the Barton Highway, with $178.6 million provided by the Australian Government and $64.3 million by the NSW Government. This funding is being utilised across two projects along the corridor: Barton Highway Upgrade Package Stage 1 and Barton Highway Upgrade Package Stage 2. The scope of this project is informed by the Barton Highway Improvement Strategy and Barton Highway duplication business case. This project, Stage 2, will deliver upgrades and duplication along the Barton Highway from the end of Stage 1 works to as far north as funding will allow. The permanent tie-in section between the NSW and ACT border will also be included in this project.
These improvements support regional development between the ACT and NSW and provide:
• Improved road safety for all road users.
• Reduced congestion and improve travel times.
• Improved efficiency and network reliability.
• Improved freight productivity.
• Improved accessibility and connectivity of road networks.
The Australian Government has committed $100 million to the Barton Highway Upgrade Package - 2. The Australian Government contribution is capped.
