Project description

Various sections of the existing road have significant rutting and/or surface failures causing a very uneven road surface. Other sections of the sealed surface have cracking.

Import gravel to add 50 milimetre of material over four sections of the road, undertake cement stabilisation and reform those sections with a 2 percent crossfall. Apply a two coat spray seal to these sections and a single coat spray seal to the sections of road that were not reformed. Replace centre and edge line marking.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
