Project description

The road has become corrugated over time and is also water worn. This has resulted in loss of road surface material. In addition, the 5 floodways in this section of road, wash out badly on each rain event. Sealing this section will provide a safe dust free overtaking section in a heavy vehicle usage area.

Reconstruct road to 10 m wide, improve drainage and apply a 7.2 m wide bitumen seal over a length of 8 kms.

Total cost of proposed project is $857,124

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
