Project description

Road is in very poor condition and requires reconstruction, pavement strengthening, traffic/safety improvements and improved accessibility. Increases in adjacent development has increased the traffic, especially heavy rigid trucks using the road.

Pavement rehabilitation, resurfacing, some traffic improvements including improved lane layout, delineation and signage. The pavement improvements will also include strengthening to cater for increased heavy traffic. Accessibility will be improved at transport stops and for pedestrians crossing the road.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
