Project description

The full extent of the site was reconstructed about three years ago. At that time the section was sealed with a 10 mm aggregate single coat seal to a width of 7 metres. Good practice sees the single coat seal that has been applied only being expected to provide projected life of two to three years. As this, good practice, time period has already elapsed there is concerns that deterioration of the single coat seal will accelerate exposing the underlying road to moisture ingress and potential damage.

The proposed work is the application of a seal coat for the entire extent of the section nominated. The seal coat is planned to use a 10mm aggregate size and be applied to a 7 metre width throughout.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
