Project description

Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Alfred formed in the Gulf of Carpentaria on 20 February 2017, and then weakened to a tropical low before making landfall on 22 February 2017. The extreme rainfall resulted in piping of soil above the cells, collapse of the pipe inlet, and formation of a sink-hole in the road. Emergency repairs were sufficient to permit re-opening of the road but left the crossing with a continuing but lessened risk of partial collapse of cells 1 and 5, rendering the crossing beyond economic repair.

Replacement of the Rocky Creek culvert crossing with beam bridge construction, and reseal 367.27 meters of road (South side to bridge 105.5 meters, bridge length 39 meters, North side to bridge 222.77 meters) as follows: Decommissioning existing structure (excavation, disposal, earthworks) Foundation and substructural works (reinforcement, capping, drainage, bracing, levelling) Superstructure works and construction Finishing items (testing, railing, drainage, backfilling, pedestrian access, painting, lighting and electrical, signage)

Total cost of proposed project is $6,688,878
