Project description

Residential development is occurring south of this location and a park / recreation area immediately to the west. The current 'rural' road has no kerbs, footpaths and parking facilities and is no longer appropriate for the level of surrounding development.

Widen road pavement and seal to permit on-street parking, install kerb and channel on both sides of the road, install a footpath on western side of the road.

Total cost of proposed project is $180,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
