Project description

Road safety is the major concern on this road. The existing pavement is narrow and in poor condition. This section of road is part of a bus route and also carries small volumes of heavy vehicles.

Works will include the full rehabilitation of road pavement and reinstatement of a 2 coat bitumenous seal to a width of 6m. It will include required drainage upgrades and road geometric design through curves in this section of road.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
