Project description

Road required reconstruction of the road pavement due to pavement failure. The reconstruction works provided an opportunity to improve pedestrian safety.

A deep lift Asphalt pavement is proposed with kerb alteration works at the intersections to reduce the distance pedestrians have to travel when traversing the street. The intersection narrowing and the inclusion of a stamped road surface have been proposed to help reduce vehicle speeds.

Total cost of proposed project is $709,710

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
