Project description

The current road geometry is very poor with no formal footpaths, kerb, parking bays, lighting, bicycle lane and visual amenities. As a major collector road within a urban environment, it is desirable for Stebonheath Road to possess key “Major Collector Road” characteristics that typically consists of footpaths, sheltered right turn lanes, indented parking bays and bus bays, bicycle lanes and appropriate lighting to encourage all modes of transport. Stebonheath Road has for some time been subject to requests from the community for footpaths and cycling facilities/network. City of Playford’s Cycling and Walking Strategy 2014 identified a need to provide an off-road shared path along Stebonheath Road.

Change the road condition and environment from rural to urban by constructing Stebonheath Road to a major collector road function and geometry to accommodate all modes of transport. The scope of works include: 3.1 to 3.3 m traffic lane (each way); 1.2 to 1.5 m bicycle lane; Parking bay of 2.1 m minimum; Footpath 1.50m on the western side; Shared Use Path of 3.0m on the eastern side; Indented bus bays at existing bus stop location (location may shift and vary); and Installation of standard road lighting along the corridor.
