Project description

Upgrade roads infrastructure on and around the Northern Territory section of the Tennant Creek to Townsville corridor, such as the Barkly Highway.

This project will improve:

  • connectivity between people with jobs and services, and goods with markets
  • road safety
  • freight efficiency, connectivity and travel time
  • economic productivity
  • flood immunity on a key route in the region

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $270 million towards the Tennant Creek to Townsville Corridor, of which $200 million has been committed to Queensland and $70 million to the Northern Territory.

Timetable

Construction commenced in early 2020. Upgrades will continue on a rolling basis.
