Project description

The project will upgrade Governor Macquarie Drive between Newbridge Road and Alfred Road, Chipping Norton.

Benefits

The project is expected to:

Improved traffic efficiency to all road users on Governor Macquarie Drive between Newbridge Road and Alfred Road
Improved performance of the existing signalised intersection by increasing capacity on Governor Macquarie Drive
Increased amenity for local residents with better traffic flow, enhanced road safety and better access between residential precincts and the arterial road network
Increased opportunities for local business with improved transport access to and from the shopping precincts
Improved road safety

Funding

The Australian Government funding is capped at $1,446,518.

Timetable

Construction commenced in May 2021 and was completed in early 2022.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
