Project description

The project will upgrade the existing four-way signalised intersection at Heathcote Road/Walder Road/Bardia Parade, Hammondville.

Benefits

The project is expected to:

Improved traffic flow efficiency at the intersection by providing an additional left tum slip lane from Bardia Parade into Heathcote Road
Improved intersection capacity and coordination of traffic signals along Heathcote Road
Improved travel times, reliability and road safety
Improve efficiency of freight movements
Improved coordination and efficiency of traffic signals along Heathcote Road
Improved traffic efficiency along Heathcote Road between the residential areas in Wattle Grove, Hammondville, Holsworthy, and Southern Sydney, and the WSAJthe Western Sydney Employment Area
Improved pedestrian safety and crossing on the Heathcote Road intersection

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
