Project description
The Port of Brisbane Further Planning business case is investigating current network constraints and seeking to identify any upgrades which may be required to provide sufficient capacity and efficiency between Inland Rail and the Port of Brisbane.
The project is being led by the Queensland Government and is being developed under the Queensland Government Project Assessment Framework (PAF), which sets out three phases of business case assessment and development:
1. Strategic Assessment of Service Requirements
2. Preliminary Evaluation
3. Business Case Development
The Port of Brisbane Further Planning project is currently in the Preliminary Evaluation phase.
Benefits
A well-connected freight rail route from Inland Rail to the Port of Brisbane will provide the opportunity to ease freight-related congestion and improve liveability in South East Queensland.
Funding
The Australian Government has committed $20 million to the Port of Brisbane Further Planning project.
Timetable
The Australian Government is continuing to work with the Queensland Government to progress business case activities.
