Project description

Existing seal surface severely cracked and rutted from general traffic. Large potholes present. On commencing, very little existing road base has been found - original road constructed on compacted local soil. This has been severely impacted by tree roots. Requires significant additional road base and work.

Reconstruct road. Remove tree roots and soft material. Add new road base and tree root guard, improve road camber and drainage. Compact. Apply 10/7 bitumen seal.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
