Project description

Road presents with several large sand holes and pavement layer has deteriorated to less than 50mm. Maintenance grading during dry conditions creates large patches of lamination breakout creating worse conditions. Several complaints have arisen from the condition of this section of road and the Shire has considered it enough of a priority to gravel sheet this section.

Gravel resheet section with 100mm of gravel, water bind and compact.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
