Project description

This project will replace two failed culverts on Florvaille Road near Burketown in Burke Shire.

Benefits

The project will deliver the following benefits:

improved travel reliability by increasing flood immunity
improved reliability and efficiency of freight movements, and
reduced whole-of-life asset management costs, and
maintaining access to essential services for local communities.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $1.2 million towards this $1.5 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in July 2020 and was completed at the end of August 2020.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
