Project description

This project will upgrade the Heysen Tunnels, including:
- repairs to the tunnel lining
- improved lighting
- signage
- ventilation and electrical systems, and
- installation of a new fire suppression system.

It will also deliver a managed motorway system along the South Eastern Freeway between the intersection of Portrush Road and Cross Road, Glen Osmond, and Crafers.

Benefits

This project will improve road safety along with network efficiency and reliability.

Funding

The Australian Government is committing $220 million to this project.

Timetable

The project commenced construction in early 2023 and is due for completion early 2028.
