Project description

This project will undertake seal widening of two sections:

Section 1A and 1B: 24 km section from North West Coastal Hwy Highway to the Lyndon River (0 to 24 SLK)
Section 2: 18 km section south of Learmonth (113 to 131 SLK)

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $12.9 million towards the $16.2 million project.

Timetable

Construction started in January 2021 and completed in November 2022.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
