Project description

Road resurfacing in priority areas, including Bass Highway, Arthur Highway, West Tamar Highway, Channel Highway, Bell Bay Main Road and Bridport Main Road.

Benefits

This project will improve road safety and efficiency and network reliability for all road users and improve accessibility and connectivity of road networks.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $8 million towards the project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in November 2020 and is expected to be completed by early 2026.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
