Project description

This project supplied, installed and commissioned approximately 200 new Electronic School Zone Speed Limit Signs along with a new Network Management System to manage the upgraded signs remotely.

The project improved road safety for all road users.

Funding

The Australian and Tasmanian Governments contributed $1.5 million each to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in January 2021 and was completed in May 2023.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
