Project description

The project upgraded roadside barriers at various locations on the state road network.

Benefits

The project improved road safety for all road users.

Funding

The Australian Government contributed $1.8 million and the Tasmanian Government contributed $0.2 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced November 2020 and was completed in April 2021.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
