Project description

This section of the road is too narrow for heavy traffic, is very sandy with lots of blowouts and the drainage is clogged with silt and weeds. There are a few stone ridges in high spots along this section. Signage is missing.

This section of road will be widened and re-sheeted with gravel compacted to 150mm. The stone ridges will be shape corrected with additional gravel surfacing. The drains, backslopes and off-shoots will be cleared of silt and light vegetation. New signage and guideposts will be installed.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
