Project description

A structural assessment has been conducted of the bridge structure finding that the structure can no longer accommodate the required vehicle masses associated with the movement of commodity generated in the area. Council has recently imposed a weight restriction on the bridge of 22.5t effectively stopping all heavy freight movements in the area.

The existing bridge structure will be demolished and replaced with a prefabricated concrete structure. The anticipated vehicle loading of the new structure will allow safe unrestricted access to 62.5t 26m B doubles.

Total cost of proposed project is $450,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
